One of Australia’s toughest and most versatile motorsport heroes Toby Price has been named as part of the Australian contingent for Race Of Champions at Sydney’s Accor Stadium from March 7-8.

On the eve of heading to Saudi Arabia chasing more Dakar Rally glory, Price has been confirmed as part of Team Australia’s ROC assault, joining seven-time Supercars champion Jamie Whincup, reigning Supercars champion Will Brown and Extreme E rally ace Molly Taylor - although final teams pairings will be confirmed closer to the event.

Price has overcome a list of major injuries over the years to create an amazing career which includes Dakar bike titles in 2016 and 2019, five Australian off-road championships, nine Finke Desert race titles on bikes and in cars, the 2018 FIM Cross-Country Rallies World Championship and, most recently, a Baja 500 Trophy Truck title.

Incredibly, his second Dakar Rally victory, was achieved despite the fact that he rode the event with a broken wrist.

Price started riding motorcycles at the age of two and was winning races just two years later.

His reputation of being one of Australia's toughest ever sportsmen was born early when he won the 15 years 125cc and 13-16 years 250cc 4-stroke national motocross titles just 12 weeks after breaking both wrists in a training accident.

He turned professional at the age of just 16 and won the Australian off-road championship at this first attempt, laying the foundation for an incredible national and international career, which not only included his 2016 and 2019 Dakar Rally victories, but a second placing in 2023 and third places in 2015, 2018 and 2020.

In recent years he turned his attention to cars/trucks and is the only competitor to have won the famous Finke Desert Race in central Australia on both two and four wheels.

He has been a regular starter in Stadium Super Trucks and recently he joined fellow Australian Paul Weel to win the prestigious Baja 500.

This week Price returns to the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia to debut in a Toyota HiLux T1+ car along with former KTM bike teammate and fellow two-time Dakar bike champion, Englishman, Sam Sunderland, who will be his navigator/co-driver.

Price’s #231 car will be prepared by Overdrive Racing out of Belgium and has major backing from Black Rock Motor Resort, which is a new purpose built motorsport resort, just south of Newcastle in New South Wales.

The gruelling Dakar event, which will run from January 3-17 will include 12 stages, covering more than 8,000km over some of the world’s toughest terrain.

The Race Of Champions will be a little less gruelling, but more exciting for the fans who will be able to see the entire 1km circuit from their stadium seat.

In Sydney, Price will be going head to head with no less than four-time Formula 1 World Champion, Sebastian Vettel; current F1 ace Valtteri Bottas; seven-time Supercars champion Jamie Whincup; reigning Supercars champion Will Brown; Extreme champion Molly Taylor; nine-time FIA World Rally Champion, Sébastien Loeb; 11-time X-Games Gold medalist, Travis Pastrana; 7-time FIA World Rallycross Champion, Johan Kristoffersson; former FIA F2 champion and F1 driver, Mick Schumacher, two-time European Rally Champion, Kiwi, Hayden Paddon and father and son rally stars Petter and Oliver Solberg.

What Toby Price, said:

“We have been flat out getting everything together for Dakar and I received a call from Fredrik (Johnsson) out of the blue about being a part of the Race Of Champions,” said Price.

“ROC is such a cool event and to be a part of the first version in Australia is pretty exciting to be honest and something to look forward to."

“We have our heads down making sure we head to Dakar as prepared as we possibly can be in what will be our first attempt in a car."

“It is nice to know that once we have Dakar behind us we will be returning home to join Jamie (Whincup), Will (Brown) and Molly (Taylor) as part of Team Australia and going up against some of the best in the world.”

What Fredrik Johnsson, Race Of Champions President and Co-Founder, said:

“Toby Price is one of the toughest competitors we have ever seen in any form of world motorsport,” said Johnsson.

“His incredible stamina and the pain threshold he has displayed to win Dakar, not once, but twice, is stuff of legend.

“The Australian fans have really embraced him over the years because of his no-nonsense approach to his sport and his ability and willingness to give his time to them.

“He has proven himself on two wheels and four and I am sure he will be super competitive in front of a home crowd at Accor Stadium.

“We wish him all the best in his new endeavors at Dakar this month and look forward to seeing him fresh ready to go in Sydney - a long way from the Saudi sand dunes.”
